Have you set "Allow posting in root category" as "No". If posting in root category is disabled then the page won't redirect while clicking on the root category as the system assumes there is no need of redirecting the page while clicking on a root category. But this happens to create problem while viewing ads contained in that category, ya that's what you thought!!!
Despite setting "Allow posting in root category" as "No", the system should have updated the page on clicking the root category so as to display the ads contained in it, but it doesn’t. This is caused because the “Post ad” and “Ads Listing” uses the same category of the database.
In order to avoid this confusion please try any of the two methods discussed below:
1. Enable Posting in root category. However, this might be inconvenient to some of the users. In that case try the next one
2. This is a bit tricky one. Click the "Post Ad" button and try posting an ad. On reaching the post ad form, do not fill the form and simply click the Cancel button at the bottom. That’s it!!!
Now go to categories and click on a root category. You can view all the ads contained in that root category while posting in root category still disabled.
